MURILO CUNHA

 Murilo is a machine learning engineer that strongly believes in innovating thinking and teamwork to solve the world’s current problems. Murilo is originally from São Paulo, Brazil. At the age of 18, he moved to the United States to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University Northwest. During his studies, he was active in the student-athlete community, participating as a member in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Gender Equity Committee, as well as being a member of the honors college, working as a tutor and as a student ambassador and teacher’s assistant for mathematics and engineering courses. During the last year of his studies he developed an interest in programming and machine learning, taking up online extra-curricular courses, before graduating in 2018 with the highest distinction.Upon graduation, Murilo moved once again. In Belgium he decided to pursue his newly found passion for programming and artificial intelligence. For the following year he continued his studies, pursuing an advanced Masters of Science in Artificial Intelligence at KU Leuven. 


During his studies, he competed in different competitions, being awarded first prize and best modelling for the Data for Good Challenge (D4GC) and KU Leuven Datathon, respectively.Upon graduation Murilo took up a role as a machine learning engineer, helping clients build systems that enable organizations to make data-driven solutions. In his spare time he enjoys playing sports, travelling, and supporting projects to use technology and machine learning for good, which includes his role at SDG 18 Voices as a tech lead, in his pursuit to empower people through innovative thinking and technology.
