ABOUT GLOBAL FUTURIST INITIATIVE

The Global Futurist Initiative™ is a platform for all who advocate for and on behalf of youth to prioritize future generations in institutional global agendas through evidence-based advocacy campaigns, action-oriented investments, and impactful research.

VISION

We want to see a world of young global futurists to transform our global timeline. With over 1 billion youth in the world today, unlocking such potential is not only beneficial but critical to sustaining our shared world.

MISSION

We aim to equip and elevate youth to systematically prioritize youth issues and future generations in global agendas. Just like learning a new language, it is easiest to train the earlier we start and the more exposure we receive.

APPROACH

Our approach is informed by our theory of change as a response to the gap in youth equity in the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Learn more about our change model to see our roadmap to impact.

OUR WHY: "Youth are underrepresented in..."

EMPLOYMENT

  • 1 in 5 youth are not acquiring livelihood skills through education or work. That's 200,000,000 young people!
  • Youth NEET is still understated as data are not available for all countries as of 2022
  • Average CEO age in the S&P 500 is 58 with 81% of S&P 500 CEOs fall between 50 and 65 years of age. The youngest is Mark Zuckerberg at age 37, and only 3 CEOs are under 40
  • The average age of an employed corporate director is 46 years old as of 2022
  • While evidence support that younger directors on S&P 500 boards show positive effect on companies’ performance, median board age is 63 years as of 2020

DATA

  •  Many indices, but only 3 focused on youth and not up to date as of December 2022:
    • Global Youth Wellbeing Index (last updated in 2017)
    • Youth Progress Index (last updated in 2017)
    • Youth Development Index (last updated in 2016)
  • No metrics on how much youth know about the Global Goals
  • Only 1 metric was used to measure youth representation in decision-making: percent of young members of parliament

DECISION-MAKING

  • 2.6% of national legislatures are below age 30 and 14.2% are below age 40
  • Close to 33% of 'lower chambers' of parliament do not have a single member below age 30 (rises to 80% in upper chambers). Only 40% of the world's young member parliaments below 30 are female
  • Africa's continent has the youngest population worldwide, with 70% of the population under 30. However, the average age of heads of states across the continent is 62 years as of 2022
  • Worldwide, there are less than 10 heads of state younger than 40 years as of 2022
